Ford has ruled out the creation of a Ford Fiesta RS model in the new generation Ford Fiesta line-up.
Speaking to Autocar at the Geneva motor show, the Ford Fiesta ST’s chief programme engineer Matthias Tonn said that “there was always room in the range, but we don’t develop it”, speaking in reference to a potential RS.
An RS was frequently rumoured throughout to sit above the last generation Fiesta ST, but never materialised. Tonn was emphatic in saying that the same would be true of this generation of Fiesta, too.
Tonn said that a model similar to the last Fiesta ST200 was possible in this generation of Fiesta ST towards the end of its life, but that was not in the plan yet. Indeed, the Fiesta ST itself is one year away from production, according to Tonn, and development work on the car was still ongoing.
Ford will also maintain its close relationship with Mountune, but Mountune has yet to be involved in developing its own version of the new Fiesta ST.
