Skoda Enyaq vRS: the electric family SUV that can do it all

There’s a particular genius to the vRS badge. Since the first Octavia vRS arrived in 2001, those three letters have stood for meaningful performance, real-world practicality and strong value. It’s the everyman performance car formula, refined over decades and now applied to Skoda’s electric family SUV flagship.

The Enyaq vRS continues that tradition with 335bhp, 697Nm and dual-motor all-wheel drive, delivering 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds. But it’s not just about straight-line pace. Dynamic Chassis Control, lowered suspension and revised steering calibration give it a level of composure and adjustability that no electric SUV this size has any right to, allowing it to switch between relaxed motorway cruiser and pulse-raising B-road blaster at the touch of a button.

Crucially, it remains an easy car to live with day to day. The 84kWh battery delivers up to 344 miles of range (WLTP), while 185kW DC charging enables a 10–80% top-up in around 26 minutes.

Inside, that signature vRS DNA injects sporty flair into an otherwise plush, minimalist cabin. There are vRS-specific sports seats, a bespoke sports steering wheel and contrast detailing. As you’d expect from a Škoda, equipment is generous, with a large 13in infotainment screen, augmented reality head-up display, heated seats and a 12-speaker CANTON sound system all included as standard.

Practicality remains a core strength. A 585-litre boot, generous rear space and Skoda’s trademark ‘Smart, Spacious and Stylish’ touches – including an ice scraper in the tailgate and an umbrella in the door – ensure it can still deal with everything hectic family life throws at it without breaking a sweat. For this final part of our visit to Woller Auto Parts in Lamar, Colorado, we continue across a site that now spans more than 80 acres.

Founded in 1968, the yard holds thousands of vehicles, many of which have sat here for decades. Owner Don Woller can recall the story behind a surprising number of them, from how they arrived to what’s been removed over the years. That knowledge, combined with the sheer scale, makes it feel less like a typical salvage yard and more like a private collection that just happens to sell parts and project vehicles.

Previewed last year by the bold Neue Klasse Vision X concept (below), the second-generation iX3 will be the first of BMW's new family of EVs, riding on the Gen6 platform, which promises significant improvements in range, functionality and cost.

The iX3 will hit roads in 2026 as a rival to the Audi Q6 E-tron, Polestar 3 and forthcoming electric Mercedes-Benz GLC.

It will be followed soon after by an electric BMW 3 Series saloon, itself modelled on the striking Neue Klasse concept. A date for this unveil has yet to be confirmed.

Mules for both cars are coming towards the end of their development cycles, pictured hot weather testing programme in South Africa.

Specific details on the Gen6 platform remain under wraps, but BMW has confirmed it will be equipped with 800V electrical hardware for rapid charging and accommodate batteries that are 20% more energy-dense than today's packs - boosting range by as much as 30% and efficiency by 20%.

The platform also houses a new generation of lighter and more efficient electric motors, accommodating up to four in the most potent of BMW's new EVs, although the iX3 is likely to offer just the choice of single- or dual-motor powertrains, initially at least.

The combustion-engined BMW X3, the firm’s current best seller, will continue to be sold alongside the new iX3. The fourth generation of the SUV was launched in June last year with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
