Parent company Honda says Audi A3 rival should tempt new premium car buyers

The production version of the Acura ILX has been revealed at the New York motor show, with its maker pricing it to attract new premium brand buyers and tempt people away from established brands such as Audi and BMW.

Engine choices for the Audi A3 rival are 2.0 and 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engines, and a 1.5-litre hybrid, which is the first from the company.

Acura has set sales targets of 40,000 cars a year for the Honda Civic based car.

Takanobu Ito, Honda's president and CEO, has previously confirmed Acura will expand into some growth markets, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Ukraine from the end of 2013.

However, he has reiterated that there are no plans to expand the brand into Europe.
