The Veloster Turbo SE will hit showrooms in September, priced from £21,995

The Hyundai Veloster Turbo SE will go on sale in Britain next month, priced from £21,995. The Veloster Turbo will compete against performance versions of the Volkswagen Scirocco and Vauxhall Astra GTC.

Adding a twin-scroll turbocharger to the standard Veloster’s 1.6 GDI engine has produced power and torque figures of 184bhp and 195lb ft. Hyundai claims a 0-62mph time of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 133mph. The combined fuel consumption figure is 40.9mpg and the Veloster Turbo emits 157 g/km of CO2.

The Turbo features fitted firmer dampers than the standard Veloster, a change made by Hyundai to improve body control and optimise the car for European tastes.

The Veloster Turbo is identifiable from the naturally aspirated model by a raft of external changes including new bumpers, front grille, rear diffuser and exhaust. New 18-inch alloy wheels and ‘Turbo’ badges complete the visual modifications.

Inside, the Veloster Turbo receives new leather seats and standard equipment including sat-nav with a 7-inch touchscreen and an upgraded sound system.

The Hyundai Veloster wins on practicality, price and standard kit but lacks the dynamic talent and appeal that a coupé should have.
