The Scion FR-S is a 592bhp version of the Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BR-Z built for drift competition

Toyota’s US youth offshoot Scion has revealed this high-performance racing version of the Scion FR-S at the Detroit motor show. The FR-S, a rebadged Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86, will go on sale in standard guise in the US in spring 2012.

The Scion Racing/GReddy FR-S has been designed to compete in the 2012 Formula Drift race series, where it will be piloted by drift veteran Ken Gushi. Technical details on the racer are very limited, but Scion has confirmed that it produces a mighty 592bhp.

The racer is the result of a collaboration between GReddy, a Toyota performance parts specialist, and Scion’s in-house race team Scion Racing.

Scion also used the Detroit motor show to confirm the first 86 Scion FR-S buyers will receive their cars before the official on-sale date. All production Scion FR-S’s will also include a new Pioneer-developed infotainment system called BeSpoke as standard.
