Volkswagen has confirmed three and five-door versions of the new Volkswagen Golf Mk7 will be available straight from launch. Order books will open on 18 October before the car goes on sale officially on 7 January 2013.
Volkswagen remains tight-lipped on pricing, but tells Autocar that the Mk7 Golf will “have a similar pricing position as the current generation Golf.” Volkswagen is expected to issue more information at the Paris motor show, with a full announcement of UK specification and pricing on 3 October.
In Germany, the entry level Golf 1.2 TSI will be priced at €16,975 (£13,734), identical to the outgoing entry-level Golf Mk6. This is made possible by the production advantages of the new car’s modular MQB platform.
Trim levels for the UK are yet to be confirmed, but the German market Golf will be launched in three model lines: Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. All models will feature seven airbags and Electronic Stability Control, a TFT touchscreen display and Stop/Start system as standard. Mid-range Comfortline models gain parking assist, 16-inch alloy wheels and special ‘Comfort’ seats, whilst the Highline is distinguished by front fog lights, chrome detailing, 17-inch alloy wheels and sports seats.
Two petrol and two diesel engines will be available from launch, with the range expected to expand to 12 once all models have been launched.
First deliveries for UK customers will take place in January 2013.
